Teeth whitening Indianapolis

While there are whitening toothpastes and other over-the-counter products to whiten your teeth, nothing does a better job than teeth whitening trays from a dentist’s office.

When you get your teeth whitened at our office, what you get is a custom, retainer-like tray and teeth whitening gel that you wear at night. This process, which is sometimes called “bleaching” actually whitens your teeth over a relatively short period of time as long as you continue to use the trays and gel each night as recommended.

After your initial consultation and teeth impressions, you’ll be on your way to a whiter, brighter smile.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is whitening safe for my teeth?

Teeth whitening is very safe when used under the direction of a dentist.

What causes teeth to lose their whiten color over time?

Teeth become stained or discolored for a variety of reasons, but the most common is drinking coffee, tea, or colas; aging, which causes enamel to darken; use of tobacco products; and any trauma to the teeth, which can darken the teeth.

How do I know if teeth whitening is right for me?

Dr. Reese can evaluate your teeth and smile to determine whether teeth whitening is right for you.

How does the teeth whitening process work?

Impressions are made of your teeth so that we can create custom whitening trays to fit your mouth. These trays will guide the bleaching agent to the areas of your teeth that need to be whitened. We will take some pictures of your teeth as we go to help you monitor your progress. Next, we will fit your custom trays in your mouth to ensure they feel comfortable. We will instruct you on how to apply the whitening gel to your trays and how to insert them into your mouth. You will take the custom trays and whitening gel home with you. Usually patients wear the bleaching trays for 2 to 3 hours in the evening, but they can be worn anytime during the day because, like Invisalign aligners, they are clear, custom-fitted trays that do not interfere with your ability to speak.

When should I expect to see results?

Most patients see results after the first night, but it will typically take from 2 to 6 weeks to restore your teeth to your ‘ideal’ white. The time it will take depends on the original color of your teeth, how discolored they were, and how frequently the treatment is applied.

How long will my teeth stay white?

The effects typically last several years, but many patients choose to “touch-up” their teeth every 6 to 12 months by applying the treatment for 1 or 2 nights. “Touch-ups” are especially useful for patients that drink beverages that stain teeth, like coffee, tea and colas.

Are there any side-effects to teeth whitening?

Some patients may experience heightened tooth sensitivity to cold, or mild tooth or gum sensitivity during teeth whitening treatment, but these symptoms are only temporary and disappear within a few days.
