DOES VISITING THE DENTIST LEAVE YOU TERRIFIED AND PANIC STRICKEN?
Everything from fillings, crowns, and root canals, to gum treatment, wisdom tooth removal, cosmetic dentistry, and even cleanings can be provided while you’re asleep! Intravenous (IV) sedation employs a combination of sedative and narcotic drug administration to safely and effective allow you to sleep
through your appointment. Much more than “a pill and laughing gas” technique geared to “relax” you, Dr. Ted Reese has been licensed and providing a true intravenous sedation for over 20 years
Just like other forms of sedation dentistry, IV sedation is designed to relax you and make you completely comfortable. Not only does IV sedation also eliminate anxiety and pain, but because you are completely relaxed, your dentist can accomplish high-quality dentistry in less time. You will be so relaxed that you"ll be unaware of the sights, smells, and sounds of the dental office. Patients remain stress-free and remember little-to-nothing of their appointment by the next day.
IV sedation also gives your dentist optimum control of the amount of medication administered and allows the dentist to readily increase or decrease your level of sedation as needed, quickly and comfortably. An additional benefit of IV sedation includes faster onset of the sedation medications, meaning you'll be able to feel the effects of the medication quickly.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What Will My Actual Treatment Be Like? We require that a patient does not eat or drink eight hours prior to an IV sedation appointment,
and a companion is required to take you to and from the dental office. Patients are also encouraged to wear comfortable clothing and shoes that can easily be removed to ensure total relaxation. Upon lying down in the dental chair, an assistant will bring blankets to wrap around you so you feel comfortable and warm. Finally, you will never be left alone. Either Dr. Reese or one of our trained assistants will be with you at all times to ensure absolute safety and comfort.
What Will I Feel Like After the Appointment? Most patients remember waking up on the couch at home. The after effects are few. You will not be allowed to drive a car for 24 hrs. and typically have no memory of the visit to the office at all.
Will My Dental Insurance Cover the Procedure? Patients have different insurance plans, so there is no single answer. Generally speaking, most dental insurance plans do cover part or sometimes even all of the cost of IV sedation. It's best to check with your insurance provider prior to your appointment to confirm your plan's benefits. Feel free to call or refer to our website if you have any further questions.
