Pain-Free Dental Care with Sedation Dentistry

With dental sedation, patients feel no pain, and remember nothing about the surgery. Some of Dr. Reese's happiest patients are those who have had sedation, because they had no discomfort at the time and no memories of the experience afterwards.

I was worried about the procedure, but chose oral sedation. Not only did I feel nothing, I also remember nothing, which is fine by me. Dr. Reese made going to the dentist just that much easier."

4 Degrees of Dental Sedation

Dr. Reese's 3 different dental sedation methods can provide 4 varying degrees of sedation:

  • Light Sedation - also known as "Anxiolysis", which is typically induced by nitrous oxide. This form of gas sedation is the most commonly used method to bring on this type of relaxation.
  • Conscious Sedation - moderate dental sedation can refer to either nitrous oxide or IV sedation. Conscious sedation allows the patient to be awake enough to respond to commands, but will be in a state of extreme relaxation.
  • Deep Sedation - this state between unconscious and conscious dental sedation is where patients will not be able to respond to commands in a consistent manner and may need assistance breathing.
  • Unconsciousness - general anesthesia causes the airway to close. As a result, patients will need assistance with breathing and will not respond to commands. This method of dental sedation is reserved for oral surgery.

Dr. Reese is a graduate of Indiana University School of Dentistry and has been awarded Fellow at several different dental associations. He has been practicing sedation dentistry at his Indianapolis dental office for decades and is on-staff at St. Francis Hospital in Indianapolis. You can trust Dr. Reese for your dental needs.
