Conscious Sedation Dentistry

September 8, 2014

Conscious sedation dentistry (also called "moderate sedation") is where you are awake during the dental procedure, but you are completely relaxed. You may slur your words when speaking and not remember much of the procedure, which for many is ideal.

Moderate sedation dentistry allows you to enter a state of relaxation while staying awake during the procedure. Although you won't feel any pain, you'll be able to respond to Dr. Reese's questions and commands. Many times this is done with an IV.

IV SEDATION

Unlike a pill or gas, IV sedation drugs are delivered intravenously, producing an effect much sooner, but IV sedation also allows Dr. Reese to adjust the level of sedation needed during the procedure. Dr. Reese has done this process for 30 years.

ORAL SEDATION

IV is not the only way to achieve conscious sedation dentistry. Gas and "pill" oral sedation modalities can also be used, but they don't have as much control as IV sedation. Dr. Reese will help you determine what form of sedation is the best for you.
