How to Prevent Dental Anxiety

Do you suffer from dental anxiety when visiting the dentists office? You're not alone. Children and adults have a very real fear of dentists that can make dental appointments a traumatizing experience. Here are 3 tips for people who are dealing with or who have dental anxiety or severe dental phobia:

  • Practice good oral hygiene - avoiding sugary drinks, brushing regularly, and getting the right nutrition can make trips to the dentist less traumatic.
  • Let the dentist know you are nervous - if you are nervous or anxious about going to the dentist, let your dentist know. Telling them will make you feel better and let them do things to help you.
  • Find a dentist who specializes in working with fearful patients - a dentist who is used to dealing with frightened patients can help you feel safe and secure during your dental checkups and procedures.
