A lot of people ask, "Can I still get braces as an adult?" Yes, adult braces are possible and you have a couple of different options in our Indianapolis dentist office:
- Clear braces - called "clear aligners" you have the choice between Invisalign and Clear Correct brands
- Traditional braces - these are what you probably grew up seeing, but now you have a clear "ceramic" option
While most people think of “Invisalign” when they think of clear braces, there are other brands such as “Clear Correct” that may be another option Dr. Reese recommends. They are a similar type of technology, but work the same way. Both are considered “clear aligners” or “clear braces”. Read about what it's like to get clear aligners.
Ceramic braces are just like normal metal braces except that the brackets are made of ceramics instead of metal. This makes them slightly less obvious and makes the wire the only metal in the mouth. But the wire is so small that unless you’re really close, even the wire is not that noticeable. Compare traditional braces to clear aligners.
Why get braces as an adult?
Aside from aesthetic reasons, one would need braces to correct malocclusions or what is commonly known as a bad bite. Crooked or crowded teeth, overbites or underbites and incorrect jaw positions, when left untreated, may result in tooth decay problems, gum disease, TMJ disorders as well as speaking, chewing or digestive problems.
