Contemporary Orthodontics for Children and Adults

Creating beautiful smiles has never been easier for today’s patients.

Unlike, the treatment many parents had to endure, the treatment options for today’s children is much:

  • easier
  • more comfortable
  • typically produces fuller smiles, with longer lasting results and less incidence of relapse
  • healthier TMJ function that lasts for a life time

There are typically few cases that would involve or necessitate the removal of permanent teeth (extractions), and very few cases in which the ’socially awkward’ and unwanted use of headgear is needed.

Customized care is a hallmark of everyone’s treatment at Indianapolis Dentistry. Dr. Reese will review the specific needs, concerns of each patient before recommending a specific course of action. Many children are in need of ‘orthopedic’ care to develop jaw shapes and positions prior to ‘orthodontic’ movement. This helps to eliminate the time actually spent in braces and creates a more stable end result with healthier joint function(ie. improved TMJ health)

Orthodontics does not only create beautiful smiles, but creates a healthier mouth and jaw function while contributing to the self esteem of the patient.

Adult Orthodontics

Many of our adults seek out and enjoy the benefits of an attractive smile with straight teeth. Even if treatment was started and/or completed in childhood years, many people have experienced relapse and unwanted tooth movement in the adult years. INVISALIGN treatment has become a welcomed option for many of these adult patients to avoid the unwanted treatment of bonded braces. The former treatment of braces has been replaced with the use of clear plastic ‘aligners’ that are custom fitting over the upper and lower arches and slowly moves teeth into the desired position. This high tech treatment still requires nearly 24/7 wear of the invisible aligners but is a welcome option to the working professional or active mom.

Treatment needs that are more complicated may still require the use of traditional braces, but CERAMIC or tooth colored braces, removes or at least hides the appearance of the metal braces.

At Indianapolis Dentistry, Dr. Reese has treated patients in their seventies with braces or modalities of orthodontic care, so you’re never too young to improve your life, teeth, and smile! Having treated orthodontic needs for over 24 years, Dr. Reese is experienced in all aspects and needs to bring about a beautiful smile that will be an asset for a lifetime.

“Orthodontic care is an investment in your children’s future, not just an improvement in their current self esteem. The benefits of an attractive, welcoming smile are an asset that will be appreciated and enjoyed their whole life.” Ted Reese, DDS

How to Begin

Most all of orthodontic care beyond the simplest of needs is begin by a thorough evaluation of the underlying problems. During your evaluation appointment, the staff will take a series of photographs of the existing smile, occlusion, tooth position, and arch shape. To compliment this, impressions of the upper and lower teeth are made to create accurate models from which measurements can be made to assess tooth position, sizes, and modifications needed. Two different radiographs (x-rays) are taken. A digital panoramic and a cephalometric x-rays are taken. These reveals different aspects of the jaw and tooth development critical for assessing the individual patient needs. Dr. Reese will also perform a simple intraoral examination to assess the patient’s particular concerns, and uniqueness.

After all this information is obtained, we will schedule a consultation appointment, where specific recommendations, concerns, and treatment modalities will be reviewed. Length of treatment time is estimated, and the cost, and financing options as well as insurance benefits are reviewed with the child and parents.
